Scientists in the School - Bugs in Our Backyard

A huge thank you to the General Vanier School Council for bringing us the amazing hands-on workshop from Scientists in the School - Bugs in Our Backyard.  Thank you as well to our tireless parent volunteers - these workshops could not run without you.
.
We learned that insects have a head, abdomen, thorax, 6 legs, 2 antennae, eyes,  wings, and mouthparts.

We counted the legs on various creepy crawlies to see if they are insects (6 legs) or not (more or less than 6 legs).

We used magnifying glasses and microscopes to inspect and compare various insects and their body parts.

We investigated how insects use camouflage for survival.

We experienced some of the different ways insects use their mouth-parts to eat.

We explored the life cycle of the butterfly.
